Teaser trailers are shown long before a film is set to be released and sometimes even while the film is still being made. The main aim of a teaser trailer is to raise awareness and anticipation rather than establish the genre. They usually last from around 20 to 90 seconds and we will be aiming to make our own teaser trailer around 90 seconds. They are also sometimes created before the release date is set so they usually end with 'Coming Soon.'Teaser trailers sometimes do not even show any clips from the film at all which could be something we could consider when making our own teaser trailer. This is very different to trailers which are created to establish the genre and include the stars and director and all the highlights of the film in order to create an audience that will want to go and see the film.
The genre we have chosen for our teaser trailer is action adventure. The typical conventions of this genre are:
Mise en Scene - explosions, fight scenes, CGI, special effects
Characters - hero, damsel in distress, villain
Settings - city,
Narrative - villain trying to destroy/take over world hero has to stop them
Ideologies - good defeats evil, love conquers all
One thing which limits us creating a film with all of these conventions is that we have a very low budget even for creating a teaser trailer and most Hollywood blockbusters are usually very big budget. But we can try imitating some quite easy stunts to give our film a high budget feel. Most action adventure films also tend to follow the Classical Narrative system the basic story of our film will follow this narrative. Action adventure will be the main genre of our film but it also could fit into the spy genre or crime genre making the film a hybrid.
